Ubuntu starts driving wikipedia

It will be really a hassle to administer 400 servers, which is of different OS, eventhough they are all Linux. One command works in one server while the same wont work in the other — the way kernel reacts to a particular situation will be varying etc etc and at last you need to have each documentation for each server :)

This should exactly be the reason why the wikimedia foundation has decided to standardise the Operating Systems for their servers. For that they have selected the free OS ubuntu against redhat, whcih has been driving the servers till now.  Wikipedia is really a web gaint having 10 billion page visits a month! and the peak apache traffic can reach up to 500,00 requests per second.

Its said that the move to ubuntu was to cut their cost of administration and support.
